About Replacement of Teeth

Teeth may be lost due a number of reasons. They may have to be extracted because they were badly decayed, or may have had to be removed due to being fractured or injured in an accident. All missing teeth should ideally be replaced so that the mouth can function in a proper and predetermined manner. In cases of missing teeth, the remaining teeth in the mouth are subjected to excessive forces which may render them damaged too.

A good functional and aesthetic replacement is not only a must for comfortable chewing, but is a must in today’s beauty conscious world.Replacements may be given in a fixed or removable design depending on the condition of the mouth.

A removable denture is a quick remedy for single or multiple missing teeth. They cause minimal damage to the adjacent teeth and in case of further loss, teeth can be easily added to the existing denture. People with all teeth missing, can go in for complete dentures, which can restore the function and appearance of the patient in a very comfortable manner.

Fixed teeth with the help of bridges are also a good method of restoring missing teeth. These bridges depend on adjacent teeth for their support and retention in the mouth, but have the advantage of small size design and a good-looking appearance. It must be borne in mind that not all conditions are suitable for fixed replacement in this manner, but a compromise has to be reached with the supporting teeth.

The most technologically advanced method of tooth replacement is by way of Dental Implants. This involves the placement of a screw-like device made out of Titanium, into the bone of the jaws, and then an artificial tooth is placed on the top of this . This device can be used to replace a single or multiple teeth as the situation demands. Complete Dentures can be easily retained on these implants, giving patients a very good option for the loose or uncomfortable removable dentures.
